Another museum, but this one is especially interesting for friends of fossils. Paleontological museum in the village Mitilini, right in the middle of the island, an exhibition from bones of prehistoric animals, phinos, Mediterranean horses, hippos, horned animals and it gives attention to the natural history of the whole continent there are also Mineralogical, Geological, Botanical and Zoological departments.
The fossil brain of small horse aged 13 million years is the most valuable exhibit of the museum. It is supposed to be the only paleontological museum in Greece. It is in the Municipality building.
It was founded by Ionannis Melentism professor of paleontology at the University of Thessaloniki.
