Greek Cuisine is a typical Mediterranean Cuisine which shares similar features with Southern French Cuisine, Italian Cuisine and Turkish Cuisine. During centuries Greek cuisine has evolved and absorbed many influences and also influenced other cuisines.
Olive oil plays a great role in Greek cuisine. It is used almost in every dish. The region is rich with olive trees and olive oil is made from these trees.
Wheat and barley are the basic grains in Greece. Tomato, potato, green beans, green peppers, aubergine and onion are the vegetables that are grown.
While cooking, Greeks love to add some flavours such as mint, garlic, laurel, oregano and onion, and herbs such as basil, fennel seed and thyme.
Other ingredients are beef, lamb, fish, pork, cheese, grape leaves and yoghurt.
