What to do in Samos

Samos is a beautiful, green island with wonderful walks, hidden beaches, mountains, forests and ancient sites of great historical significance. It is well worth exploring. The best way to do this is by car. It is also possible to hire bicycles, motorbikes but most of Samos is rather hilly, if not mountainous, so you need to be pretty fit.

Walking is also a wonderful way to enjoy the superb landscapes on Samos. Walking and hiking paths for all experience levels can be found around the island. In a single walk you can witness the stretch of sea, the breathtaking mountainous shores of Turkey, fertile Samian valleys, ancient mines and ruins, the engineering wonder of the Efpalinio tunnel, and the Monastery of Spiliani. And that s just one four hours walk on the island s southern side.

On the northern coast you can find more difficult but stunning hikes into the mountain villages. Looking down from the heights you have climbed, the cultivated mountainside presents a visual feast of vineyards and olive groves climbing up toward you from the Aegean Sea.
